Pierce Seigne Breaks All-Time New Hampshire 1,600 Record With Lunge At Line

Call it home track advantage. As the 75th New England Track and Field Outdoor Championship Meet returned after a two-year absence due to the pandemic, host state Connecticut made the most of the return.

Connecticut high school track and field athletes won 19 combined gold medals in boys and girls events on Saturday at Veteran Stadium in New Britain, Ct. States taking part in the meet included: Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Connecticut. 

RESULTS

In one of the meet's closest races, Pierce Seigne of Hanover NH won the 1,600 with a diving finish to cross the line first in 4:07.09, a personal best and all-time New Hampshire record. He edged out Conard CT senior Callum Sherry (4:07.13).

Sprinter Alanna Smith of Danbury CT won the girls 100 (11.96) and ran a personal best in the 200 to win in 24.09 seconds, edging out fellow in-state rival Sydney Segalla of Housatonic, who beat her at the State Open last Monday, June 6. Segalla finished runner-up in the 200 in 24.66 but won the 400 convincingly in a time of 53.27. 

E.O. Smith CT sophomore Gabriella Hernandez captured the 800 title (2:10.63) and was part of the winning 4x800 relay (9:11.79), current US#21. 

In the field events, Shea Greene of Weston CT won the javelin by more than 20 feet with a US#4 throw of 152-1. 

Michaela Denson of Sabuis International Charter MA won the discus with 151 feet. 

Bloomfield CT senior D'Jior Delisser captured first in the girls long jump with 19-5.75.

Standout thrower Gary Moore Jr. of Hillhouse CT, who will attend Baylor this fall, concluded his last in-state high school meet by winning the discus with a throw of 187-9. Moore is currently ranked U.S. top 10 in the shot put and top 20 in the discus.

Senior Max Klein of Newton North MA, won the shot put with a US#14 throw of 65-5. 

In the javelin, current US#21 thrower Maxwell Cute of La Salle Academy RI won with a throw of 192-10.

On the track, Andrew Farr of Gorham ME won the 200 (21.95) and placed second in the 100 (11.00) and 400 (48.27).

Michael Johnson of Lewis Mills CT won the 110 hurdles (14.08) and finished second in the 300 (38.60).
