Cayden Spencer-Thompson Wins LJ/TJ At New Englands By Mary Albl of DyeStat In his final high school track meet in his home state of Maine, Mattanawcook Academy's Cayden Spencer-Thompson made sure it was a memorable one. Saturday afternoon at Thornton Academy, Spencer-Thompson repeated as jump long champion, soaring 23-09.25 to tie the field record the New England Track and Field Outdoor Championships. “I actually had no idea (I’d broken the record),” Spencer-Thompson told the Press-Herald. “I had some good jumps in the prelims … I was hitting 24 feet, but they were fouls, so I just told myself to start sooner." Spencer-Thompson added a title in the triple jump as well (47-10.50). New England indoor shot put champion Aiden Felty of Innovation Academy MA won the shot put (63-0.50) and placed third in the discus (159-2). Kyle Moison of Lincoln RI won the discus with a stadium record 182-3. On the track, Conor Murphy of Classical RI, won the 800 in 1:52.23, breaking Isaiah Harris of Lewiston's 2015 track record of 1:52.74. To start the meet, the William Hall CT 4x800 relay team clocked a US#9 time of 7:43.85 to win and break the track record. In the girls 3,200, Pomperaug CT sophomore Kate Wiser (10:22.24) edged out Falmouth's Sofie Matson (10:24.07) for the title. Both were under the track record time of 10:31.19 set in 2012 by Bethanie Brown. |
